How Sculptoris Built India's First
DLP 3D Printer
Today, every jewellery maker who uses a 3D printer thinks it is normal. You design a piece on your computer, press print, and in a few hours you have a model ready for casting. It feels simple now. But this was not always possible in India. Someone had to build this technology first, from zero.
That someone was Sculptoris Innovation. Here is the full story.
2013: The Beginning
Sculptoris Innovation Pvt Ltd started in 2013. Our goal was simple to say, but hard to do — bring modern 3D printing technology to Indian factories and workshops, made by Indians, for Indian needs.
At that time, almost all good 3D printers came from other countries. These printers were costly. And if something broke, you had to wait weeks for a spare part to arrive from abroad. For a jewellery business, every day of downtime means lost orders and unhappy customers.
Jewellery makers in India had only two real choices back then:
- Keep making jewellery by hand, the traditional way — slow, and hard to scale up
- Buy an imported machine — expensive, and support was far away
We felt there was a better way. So we started building it ourselves.
Three Years of Research
Building a 3D printer from scratch is not easy. It took our team more than three years of testing, failing, learning, and testing again. We were not just copying a machine from outside. We were designing something new, made to work well in Indian conditions — different power supplies, different workshop setups, different weather, and different customer needs.
This kind of work needs patience. There is no shortcut when you are building precise machines that need to print tiny, detailed jewellery parts correctly, every single time.
2016: India's First DLP 3D Printer
In 2016, all that hard work paid off. Sculptoris Innovation built India's first Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printer.
Let us explain what makes DLP special, in simple words.
Most basic 3D printers use a screen (LCD) to slowly cure resin, layer by layer. DLP is different — it uses a small projector to flash light across the entire layer at once. This gives more even light across the full print area. And more even light means sharper, cleaner, more reliable prints, every single time.
For a jewellery piece full of tiny prongs, patterns, and stone settings, this level of precision matters a lot. Even a small mistake can ruin a design or waste expensive resin and time.
Building this machine in India, with an Indian team, meant two big things for our customers:
- Better technology, made for local needs — not just an imported design with a new sticker on it
- Fast, local support — if something needs a repair or a spare part, you don't wait weeks for it to clear customs
What This Meant for Jewellery Makers
Before this, many small and mid-size jewellery businesses in India could not afford good 3D printing technology, or could not get fast support when they needed it. Our DLP printer changed that.
We started with one customer at a time. Slowly, word spread. Today, hundreds of jewellery manufacturers across India use Sculptoris printers every day for their production.
That very first DLP printer became the foundation for everything we build now — including the SCULPTOR 1X, SI ULTRA 2000, and SI ECHO MAX.
Why We Still Tell This Story
We share this story not just to look back with pride, but because it still shapes how we work today.
Building the first DLP printer in India taught us an important lesson — Indian manufacturers don't just need a machine. They need a partner. A partner who understands local working conditions, who can fix problems fast, and who keeps improving the product instead of treating it as "done."
That is still how we build and support every printer we sell.
